Some of our year 5 pupils this year will have the really exciting opportunity to work with a university tutor on a project about maths and/or engineering. This is a fabulous chance for them to work at a higher academic level than they do in school, in a more adult environment. They will visit a university, to help them make the decision about whether they would like to continue into further education when they’re older and complete a written report about the practical elements of their course. At the end of their university time, they will even have a small graduation ceremony.
This is an excellent chance for our pupils to experience a new life-opportunity – I know some of them are really looking forward to it.
Keep your eyes posted here for more information and some photos about what they will have been up to!
The first university the Brilliant club visited was Trinity College, Cambridge. They had a tour, and met their tutor for the first time. Later on, she came in to school to work with the pupils on a project entitled ‘How Healthy is your Heart?’. Pupils had to carry out some research, take notes in their seminars, set up an experiment and write up their results.
For their graduation, the pupils visited SOAS, a college of University of London. There was a tour, and explanation of the different subjects studied there. Pupils who graduated received their certificates. Parents were so proud!!
