Reception Puffins

Week beginning 10-12-18

There is a lot happening this week!  Puffin and Parrot classes are learning to sequence the nativity story and to act it out together.  They will be talking about winter weather and deciding which clothes they need to wear to keep warm.

Our performances of ‘Away in a Manger’ are on Wednesday, I hope you have remembered to send your booking slip back – 2 people may attend for each child.  There are performances in the morning and afternoon and we are looking forward to singing and entertaining you all!

On Friday morning the children are going to West Minster to watch a pantomime with the Year 1 and Reception classes.  Please make sure we have your permission slip back as soon as possible.  We will be leaving Rose Street straight after registration so don’t be late or your child will miss all the fun.  It is also Christmas jumper day so wear a festive jumper and raise money for charity.

We finish school on Tuesday 18th December so Miss Bennett and Mrs Beale would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Week beginning 3-12-18

Week 6 already and our topic about ‘Celebrations’ continues with…Christmas!  The children in Puffin and Parrot classes will be reading ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’.  He will be hiding around the classroom and children will be using positional words to describe where he is, for example, behind the tree or next to the dolls house.  We will be writing important letters to Santa.  Ask your child to say the sounds they can hear in s-a-n-t-a because they have all these letters and sounds in their little blue books.

Everyone had their own letter to say which character they will play in the nativity next week.  It also says which clothes (and the colours) we would like them to bring in by Friday at the latest.  Please check you child’s book bag if you have not seen it yet!

This week our Celebration is a wedding.  The children will be telling us about weddings they have been to and sequencing a wedding day from getting dressed to the dancing at the reception!  Puffins and Parrots will be learning how to make wedding buns, wrap a present and design a wedding outfit for themselves.

Don’t forget the wellies if the weather is wet then children can play outside in the puddles.  Unfortunately we have not won an attendance award for some time due to so many unwell pupils.  Remember to always wash your hands carefully to stop the germs spreading please….at home and at school.

Parent’s Meetings are this week, check with your teacher if you cannot remember when you have booked an appointment.

Welcome to Week 4.  Puffin and Parrot classes will be celebrating ‘Birthdays’  for our topic about ‘Celebrations’.  They will be buying presents and talking about small coins and money and designing their own birthday cards.  We will find out which month their birthday is in and how old they are.  Does your child know which month they were born in?

Later in the week the children will play some party games and decorate ‘cakes’ with playdough candles.

We will begin rehearsing our nativity play and decide which children are brave enough to have a speaking part!

As the weather turns colder and wetter make sure your child has a jumper and a coat every day.  Please help them to learn how to do up a zip ….. it takes us a long time to do their coats up 4 times a day!

Thank you.

We will be creating rangoli patterns around the school …. ask your child what they are and maybe they could make one for you at home!

Unfortunately the fire engine was busy last week but we are hoping for a visit this Friday.  As it is also Children in Need day please make sure your child has a warm coat over their costume as we will be outside to see the fire engine.

Some children are practising their phonics and remembering their book every day, the sooner they are confident with ‘s’, ‘a’ and ‘t’ the sooner they will have the next 3 sounds to learn.  Please come and see us if you have any questions.
