Sheerness West Federation

Welcome!

This term our topic is the Invaders which will cover the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward Confessor. We will also be learning about Viking invasions and how the Vikings lived. Please ask the children to explain!

In science we are going to be learning about reversible and irreversible changes – this will include a number of scientific investigations and experiments.

Maths lessons are focusing on place value, whole numbers, roman numerals and negative numbers.

Our English (Literacy) lessons will be linked to our topic, and we will be reading Michael Morpurgo’s adaptation of ‘Beowulf’. This term the children will write a newspaper article, a hero versus monster narrative and a piece of instructional writing. They have already produced some excellent writing which I’m sure they can tell you all about!

Reading is very important because the more the children read, the greater their vocabulary will become. We will check reading and contact books every day, however the children will be encouraged to choose their own titles from the library.

PE will be on Monday and Thursday, please have full kit in school at all times and remove earrings on the day – if children cannot do this for themselves. I would hate for anyone to miss out on these sessions.

If you have any questions or queries please see me after school, or make an appointment with the office.

I look forward to getting to know you this year and working with your children.
