Talk Day

We began our term with a Talk Day, where the children focus on developing their oracy skills. Here is a summary of yesterday’s year group activities: In Year 1, the children learnt about the life cycle of plants, and explored the word “flower” . They also looked at human and physical features in Geography.

In Year 2, the children looked at picture clues from a story book and tried to predict what the story would be about.

In Year 3, In DT, the children discussed different types of castles: Which of these castles looks the strongest or weakest? Stable or unstable? Why? Who would use, make or live in this castle? Why? Are these man-made or natural structures? Then, they discussed all of the important features of a castle and what their purpose was, drawing their own castles and labelling it’s features.

In Year 4, they looked at concept cartoon about a scene from our new story, Gorilla in English. They had to decide which person they agreed with. The picture was of a girl slumped in a dark room watching TV. We also discussed using key words to 'Talk like a writer ' when giving answers to questions.

In Year 5, they looked at the concept cartoon, and working in groups they discussed which child they agreed with.

In Year 6, they focused on their term text, by exploring the main character of Francis.
